Summary: I bought this strap in conjunction with the battery grip for my 5D. I believe they work hand-in-hand. I was always annoyed with the neck strap as it gets in the way when you shoot vertical. The hand strap fixed this problem and I feel the added security when I use it with my hand fitted into the slot. Overall good product.

Strengths: Added safety while holding the camera. Can be used with or without the neck strap.

Weaknesses: For smaller digital SLR such as 5D will need battery grip to install E1. Hard to change settings with your right hand while it is in the strap.

Summary: I usually use it together with neck strap so I get the best of both. The best use for horizontal shots. For vertical shots, it is more ergonomic to use the vertical controls instead of main controls.
