Summary: A lens hood is a must accesory in my opinion. Unfortunetely, it does not included in Canon's lower-end lenses. Lens hoods help to block unwanted light from the side, increase contrast and prevent glare. Also, it protect the front element of a lens. This lens hood meets all the expectations. It fits my 55-250 perfectly. Highly recommanded!

Summary: The hood should have been included with the lens. My cousin bought the Quantaray 70-300mm and it came with a hood for $160. Otherwise, I'm happy with this hood--it even fits over the filters I bought!

Summary: This lens hood is built of a high quality plastic that is unlikely to crack under impact. It is effective at reducing glare in brightly lit environments, but somewhat expensive at ~$20 (approximately 10% of the cost of the lens itself).
