Time with product: 1 Years
Strengths: 1. Easy to install. 2. Provides clean tasting water
Weaknesses: 1. Replacement based on time, not usage.2. Somewhat expensive
Summary: This filter is very easy to install. Just twist and pop the old one out, and push in the new one and twist, then purge. Lastly, hit the reset button for three seconds and it's all set to go. Only downside is that the filter replacement seems to be based on time, not usage. According to the manufacturer, it should last 300 gallons. If you do not replace it after six months, nothing will happen, but eventually water flow will decrease.

Strengths: LONG LASTING AND EASY TO INSTALL
Weaknesses: WOULD LIKE FILTER TO LAST AT LEAST A YEAR INSTEAD OF 6 MONTHS
Summary: I HAVE OWNED THE REFRIGERATOR FOR 2 YEARS AND I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE LG FILTER, HOWEVER, IT WOULD BE A LOT MORE CONVENIENT IF THE FILTER LASTED LONGER THAN 6 MONTHS. THE FILTER LEAVES ON FRESH CLEAN TASTING WATER, EVEN FROM WELL WATER.

Strengths: Filter works great, produces great tasting water.Quick and easy to replace.
Weaknesses: One of the most expensive filters available. Not stocked in most retail stores (Home Depot, Sears, Lowes, and others)
Summary: This is the replacement filter for LG refridgerators and some Kenmore Elite refridgerators. This filter is extremely hard to find and expensive. I would recommend keeping an extra on hand or ordering one a month or two in advance simply because you can't just run down to the local store and pick one up, you're stuck ordering and waiting for it.

Strengths: Makes hard and heavily chlorinated water taste great.
Weaknesses: Cost is too high and I can't purchase it locally.
Summary: LG wants $55.00 to purchase it from them direct, plus tax and shipping. I wanted to buy it locally and LG said Home Depot stocks it. However I went to three stores and none of them had it. Home Depot doesn't sell it on their website either. Price Grabber was a life saver because I found it through them at ABT.com for $45.00, saving me $10.00!

Time with product: 1 Day
Strengths: it is easy to use (really a strength of the refrigerator design)
Weaknesses: high cost, lack of easily available generic replacement, when it gets old, water does not run through it, forcing a change
Summary: I purchased an LG refrigerator and am happy with the design and the operation. I am not that happy with the water filtration system. Water filtration is not that important to me - we don't use the water much, nor the ice feature much. I would be OK if it wasn't filtered. But it does not function without a filter in place, and after about a year, the filter clogs to the point that water does not flow through it, and it needs to be replaced. Since it isn't as common as , say, a GE, or whirlpool, there is a lack of generic replacements. The $50 cost of this filter is a rip off. If it was a universal fit, like a light bulb, I could see this itme being sold in a $1.00 store, but that is the story of supply and demand. You can also purchase this through Sears/Kenmore (I think it is a 9900 or 4609900) but it isn't much differnent in price, and I expect it is the same item with a different label. I can say that once I replaced the filter, my water flow was instantly retored (after allowing for purging)
