Summary: If you're in the market for front loading washers and/or dryers you should spend the extra money for the pedestals. It provides for easier unloading from washer to dryer and also provides lots of space for storage. The 15 inch height is perfect for most detergent bottles standing upright. You can also remove the 2 dividers altogether if you want. At first these seem expensive but I looked into building a base in the laundry room with shelving underneath. Materials alone was about the cost of 1 pedestal so I decided to scrap that plan. I think this also looks much nicer.
