Strengths: All of the great levels and maps of Super Mario World for SNES with little change
Weaknesses: All of the great levels and maps of Super Mario World for SNES with little change
Summary: Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 is a great game for those of us who remember when we first bought our SNES and played this game to no end because it was undoubetdly the first game you ever owned. It's absolutely amazing to have this game now in portable form at a moments notice. There have been a few subtle improvements to the game for this version, most notably the ability to switch between Mario and Luigi as well as a status screen that comes up when you're in the world view that tells you how many goals you have completed thus far in the entire game. Part of me is happy that Nintendo chose to leave well enough alone and not touch this classic game. However, another part of me wished there was something new and exciting added to the game that made it slightly different to play this time around.

Strengths: It's mario! Fun platforming action.
Weaknesses: GBA doesn't have the same number of buttons as SNES, so it's kind of awkward
Summary: The classic Super Mario World that released with the SNES was a great game to re-release on the GBA (which is about as powerful as the SNES). The new element of riding Yoshi made this game unique and the colors are as great as they were on the SNES. The only downside to this re-release on the GBA is the fact that the SNES had 6 buttons total while the GBA has 4. Since SMW only used 3 buttons on the SNES it still works out, but it's a little awkward to use one of the GBA's shoulder buttons for one of Mario's jumps that was a face button on the SNES pad.

Strengths: Genre-defining SNES game now on GBA, play as Luigi, save anywhere, multiplayer support
Weaknesses: Smaller screen size limits view, expensive for what you get, no new multiplayer modes
Summary: Super Mario World was originally released as a pack-in game for the Super Nintendo system, and it was universally hailed as one of the best 2D platform games of all time. In an obvious cash-in, Nintendo has released Super Mario World once more, this time as a Game Boy Advance cartridge. All of the original game play has made the transition to GBA, and a few extras have been included as well. Due to Game Boy's on-the-go nature, you can now save anywhere at anytime. There's a handy new status screen that lets you check your progress through Mario's world. You can also play as Luigi. If you missed the original Super Mario World on SNES, this is a decent port. Of course, you could always download the game for Wii or track down an original SNES cartridge, but if you want Super Mario World on a handheld, this is your only option. As a Players Choice value release, it will run you $20 or less new.
