Summary: Information and reviews obtained from Consumer Reports led me to this air conditioner. A GE air conditioner actually was rated # 1 in this size range, but many negative reviews their led me to believe otherwise. I went with their second choice, the Friedrich, and am glad I did.

Weaknesses: Just as noisy as the much cheaper model I replaced, but this one costs twice as much. Very heavy to lift into place. Summary: I bought this because of a Consumer Reports recommendation that it was the quietest 8000 BTU unit available. Maybe scientific instruments would indeed reveal that it is quieter, but I couldn't observe it. Considering the huge price differential, any difference in sound is meaningless. I don't recommend this item.
