The Wii Component Video Cable allows you to hook your Wii console system to a high definition TV (HDTV) or enhanced definition TV (EDTV) to view 480p progressive output. 480p progressive output displays at a higher resolution than standard 480i resolution.

Strengths: A must-have for any HDTV owner
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I considered this such an essential item for my Wii setup that I held off playing Zelda Twilight Princess on my launch Wii because these cables were not available at first. Now they are easy to find and are an essential part of the Wii setup if you have an HDTV or even a standard television that accepts the higher-quality component inputs. Nearly all Wii games support progressive scan (480p) and that makes for a sharper and brighter picture on an HDTV over standard 480i, and in particular over 480i through the standard composite cables (included with the system). If you have an HDTV, you absolutely must get component cables.

Strengths: Much clearer picture at 480p, no signal noise issues
Weaknesses: More expensive than 3rd party products
Summary: The official Nintendo Wii component cables allow the Wii to output to a 480p EDTV/HDTV resolution. Colors look much vivid and the overall picture looks much crisper. The cost is higher than the 3rd party alternatives, though there's not been any signal noise issue that some 3rd party cable suffer from. For anyone with an EDTV or HDTV, this is a must-have.

Strengths: Great picture
Weaknesses: Can be expensive
Summary: The Nintendo-branded component cables for the Wii have worked very well. The cables are good construction quality and the picture is crisp and vibrant in 480p. You may be able to find other third-party component cables for the Wii, but if you go that route, ensure that they are Wii-specific cables. The Wii uses a proprietary connector for AV cables, which your standard cables off the shelf will not support.

Strengths: good quality cable, easy to hook up, 480p looks good
Weaknesses: some jaggedness of pins noticed in wii bowling
Summary: I would recommend this product if you have a wii and a HDTV. The picture looks sharper although I noticed some jagged edges of the bowling pins in wii bowling. Other than that, everything else looks great! If you can get it for a good price then I'd say go for it.

Time with product: 5 Months
Strengths: Quality cables, 480p for HD picture, price
Weaknesses: Only 480p
Summary: A must for those with HD TVs. Will only go up to 480P but will be much better than composite and s-video. Price has gone down and can be found for about $13-$15 at amazon. Get it now and you will enjoy your Wii a lot more than you already do!
