You can find an occasional game with dating sim elements (Thousand Arms, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, etc.), but stateside games with this as a central game play premise are few and far between. That makes it all the more disappointing when a game like Brooktown High actually gets released here. While Brooktown isn't particularly bad, publisher Konami could have easily found another much better game to port and localize for a stateside release. The dating sim genre will never take off here if the handful of games that publishers offer us are mediocre at best. Since most dating sim games are published in Japan, fans that don't speak fluent Japanese or want to import their games will have to settle for Brooktown High. It's not a terrible game, but it's not particularly good either. For $20 or less, genre fans may have some fun with Brooktown. For Nintendo DS owners, Sprung has much better writing and can be picked up for about the same price.
