Rating: Time with product: 14 Days Strengths: Style, ice/water dispenser, quite, space Weaknesses: None so far Summary: Bought a 2 weeks ago and got it delivered right away. It looks shining in my new kitchen. The stainless style flow with my cabiner and granite countertop smoothly. My family love the ice dispenser and the space it has. My old side by side has an ice dispenser too but it took almost a full drawer. This baby definitely has all the current technology. The price is just about right. WIth a lot of 10% flowing around, it is not difficult get it at around 2200. We love it. |

Rating: Time with product: 7 Days Strengths: ClimateKeeper ? No air exchange between fridge and freezer. You don?t have to clean the coils. Can hold six 1 gallon milk containers total in the two doors. Weaknesses: Big.Can?t be set at counter depth since the doors require clearance to the sides to open. Summary: We just got our GE Profile PFSS6PKWSS fridge installed. It has French doors on top for the fridge and a drawer on the bottom for the freezer..I was convinced that this was the right one to get based on what I?ve read around the internet and Consumer Reports. I was really sold on the dual evaporators (watch the ?ClimateKeeper2? video on the GE web site). This one has "ClimateKeeper" instead of "ClimateKeeper2", but I couldn't figure out what the difference is. On the GE web site. "ClimateKeeper2" seems to be associated with their SxS fridges..It has to be more efficient (and better for the food) not to have to defrost the freezer as much because it is not sharing air (and moisture) with the refrigerator part. We love having water and ice in the door (we use it almost every day) so that was a requirement..This model (and last year?s) has the best ice/water system of the French door models we looked at. It took up less space in the refrigerator compartment than some competing brands. Consumer Reports says that through the door ice is the biggest repair issue with refrigerators. The salesman said that through the door ice works fine as long as you use it regularly. That was our experience with our old Kenmore. You do have to clean out the chute once in a while. .Another nice feature is that you don?t have to clean the coils. They are enclosed somehow that isn?t really explained anywhere I could find..I was also convinced that a bottom freezer was the way to go. I got really tired of having to pull things off the shelves in the SxS freezer section to get things in the back. With the new one, you have to dig around some to find things, but the stuff you are pushing aside stays inside the freezer instead of having to be put on the counter. And having a full width refrigerator and freezer means we can fit large items in there more easily..Everything that was in our SxS freezer (which was pretty packed) fit in the bottom freezer of the new fridge with a little room to spare. We had ice and water in the door of our SxS too, but it was the old style where the ice cube maker took up about 15% of the interior freezer space..We have a fairly small kitchen with limited counter space (even after a remodel), so a counter depth fridge (of the same capacity as our old fridge) wasn?t really an option plus they are a lot more expensive and don?t seem to have a better repair record. We didn?t want to go down in cubic feet (our SxS was 25 CF). This model is 25.5 CF..This year?s model has a number of improvements over last year?s:.1) Deeper crisper drawers. Last year?s model had only about 5.5? of clearance. This year?s is about 6.5?..2) Can hold six 1 gallon milk containers total in the two doors (four on one side and two on the other). Last year?s model could only hold three total..3) Freezer drawer layout is much better. In last year?s model, you pulled the front of the freezer out and then you had to pull out a separate wire basket to get at the food. With this year?s model, there is a mostly solid plastic deep drawer that comes out when you pull the handle on the front. There is a small shelf flush up against the door for frozen juice cans. There is a full width pullout drawer above the main drawer. This is perfect for bread, tortillas, etc. that we like to keep in the freezer. Last year?s model had two side by side pull-out drawers up top which would be okay too..The small shelf up front has a flip out spot for putting a large frozen pizza vertically in the freezer. The picture gallery on the GE web site has a picture of this mode..It has a full width deli drawer with a separate temperature setting (34 instead of 38) to keep your meat and cheese fresher..It only took a few hours to get to the set-point temperature using the turbo-cool and turbo-freeze modes of the fridge, and it started making ice in about 4 hours. The installer said run 3 gallons of water through the system and dump the first two loads of ice to flush everything out. We flushed the water out right away and we are still waiting for the second load of ice to finish..It is very quiet. One of its listed features is ?Premium Quiet Design? so that seems to be true. |

Rating: Time with product: 3 Months Strengths: Ya Right Weaknesses: Everything Summary: I have had problems since day one with this refrigerator. It drips from the water dispenser constantly. The door handle on the freezer keeps coming loose. It took more than a month for them to get the parts to fix it & I am still waiting for them to show up. The glass with the writing was put in wrong when they assembled it. Now the Ice Maker is leaking water into the refrigerator. & does not work. Who know how long it will take for them to order the parts & fix that. GE & Home depot are NO HELP at all. They talk like they stand behind what they sell before you buy but do nothing when there are problems. |

Rating: Time with product: 6 Days Strengths: -size (pros and cons)-ice/water dispenser in door-freezer basket-aesthetics Weaknesses: -construction (if you're unlucky)-size-freezer size Summary: I wrote a huge article but after I tried to proceed, I received an error message, and when I pressed back, everything was erase.. so here we go again! This refrigerator in question has its pros and cons. One strong point is that this is a beauty. I love the design. There are a few kinks that could be ironed out though. This is one of the larger units on the market, that being said, it also sticks out from my cabinets quite a bit, though it's a personal sacrifice I had to make for the extra space. The ice/water dispenser is a great convenience because it dispense from the door, rather than having to open the freezer (letting out the cold and bending over) every time you want some ice. The ice dispenser is quite small, we'll just have to see how fast this machine can make the ice. There is a flip up shelf situated next to the ice maker (located in the fridge section) which is great for being able to put taller champagne bottles, soda bottles, etc vertically instead of having to lay them down horizontally. The lighting is a new thing I suppose, which utilizes LED's (I guess it's more energy efficient also) rather than an incandescent. It emits a bluish hue which hopefully will be softer on the eyes when one tries to go for a midnight snack. The dual humidity control is a great feature for your perishable needs such as vegetables and herbs. They'll help keep them crisper and fresher for a longer period compared to the conventional non-adjustable humidity bins. One thing I look for when purchasing a fridge is the retractable strip in between the doors to help create a better seal, rather than using no strip. Though there is no proven fact of which one is better, intuition just tells me ones with the strip (such as this model) is more superior in creating a better/more efficient seal. The freezer is a bit smaller for my liking (coming from a side by side, but is great if you need space to store ONE say, huge frozen turkey. But then you would have no space for anything else. I like the fact that this model has a plastic bin rather than a wire basket so things can't leak (prefrozen(sp?) liquids)/fall through when opening/closing the freezer. Some weakness that I have found was that some (maybe rare, maybe common, but I don't have this issue.. whew....) have issues of the doors denting/warping due to the poor stainless steel wrapping. Make sure you inspect it CAREFULLY upon delivery for this issue. The ice maker is smaller than what I am used to, but we'll see how fast this sucker can make ice. Maybe size is sacrificed for freezing time. But if you're going to have a large party, go out and buy ice at the grocery store by the huge bags and you can fit it in your large freezer bin :).One thing I'd ask GE to change (including beefing up the support behind the stainless steel to resist denting better) is the hose behind the fridge where the ice maker water line connects to your house line. The plastic line behind the fridge is very flimsy so don't bother buying the stainless steel water lines because it is waaaay overkill. The plastic line on the fridge will be broken before the stainless steel water line from the house connection even shows any signs of wear. So save a few bucks and get just the cheapER (not cheapEST) set (should be about ~$6-$7).At this price and point, this fridge is pretty much an aesthetic improvement. If you enjoy your side by side, then this isn't for you. As for me, I wanted something newer (design-wise). |
