Strengths: operates down to 42 degrees, recommended as a BEST BUY, can attach garden hose (not tube) instead of using bucket, Energy Star, washable filter, 5 year warranty on parts, labor and compressor.
Weaknesses: seems loud
Summary: After doing lots of research looking for a basement dehumidifier, I chose this model because of these attributes. It can work at lower temperatures (Very few larger models work at lower temperatures.), has auto-defrost control, is Energy Star efficient, can attach a garden hose (didn't want to deal with emptying the bucket), and the bonus is that it will automatically restart after a power outage. An hour after I installed it (12" away from any wall, etc), I could feel the difference in the humidity. Yes, the cellar is now warmer (dry, warm air is blown back into the room by dehumidifiers) and drier. It does seem to run a lot, but we do have a very wet, fieldstone basement, so we put it on the timer mode (choice of cycling on/off for 2 hours or 4 hours). Not sure how accurate the humidity reading is. Too cheap to buy a hygrometer. Because there is no water pump on this dehumidifier, I put the dehumidifier UP on a small table and used gravity to drain the water into a cellar drain. I attached a piece of garden hose to the threaded connection inside the dehumidifier. There was another dehumidifier I was interested in, but I would have had to order it and pay for shipping. Since so many people have problems with their dehumidifiers, I decided to go with a brand that was available locally. If there are any problems, I could easily exchange or return it. With a 5 year warranty, I'm less nervous about when I start it up again next spring. (That's the time when many dehumidifiers run but fail to remove the moisture.) I paid $179.

Strengths: Removes water from the air in the room
Weaknesses: Seems to significantly heat up the room, water doesn't totally empty into the bucket, digital humidity indicator seems to be a bit flighty
Summary: I reviewed the different dehumidifiers in this price range (about $179) on a consumer product review site. This unit came highly recommended above the competition. The first unit (yes the first unit) I set up right away in an upstairs bedroom. It came on, told me the humidity level, and then started working. Great. A few hours later, I walked in the room and immediately I felt the temperature was significantly higher that the temp in the hallway. So I checked the bucket. It was partially filled. So I decided empty it. As I was removing the bucket, some of the water that was in upper collection area leaked into the bottom of the unit. With my other dehumidifiers I never had this happen. To make matters worse, the instruction manual (yes, I read the whole thing) said that no water (as in cleaning the unit) should be used on the inside of the unit. This "leak" in my mind qualified as water on the inside of the unit. I called the manufacturer and was told that I should take the unit in for service because "something sounded like it wasn't working right." The closest center was at least 20 minutes away. And having just bought the unit the day before, I decided to return it to the store (5 minutes away) and purchased a second unit. The room still heated up. It felt like at least 10 degrees but who knows. I called the manufacturer again and was told that the temp might increase by 5 degrees and that yes a little water might spill out when I unload the bucket. So I've learned to empty the bucket by first tilting the unit forward and back so any excess water falls into the bucket and then I remove the bucket. The temperature is another issue so I went to the dollar store and bought 2 thermometers. I'm going check the temp between the hallway and the room where the unit is intermittently to see if the difference is really 5 degrees or less. The digital readout seems to fluctuate wildly but that may be because of the humidity in the house.

Time with product: 3 Days
Strengths: Low temperature operates down to 42 degrees, high /low fan settings, quiet (noise level is no louder than a regular fan setting on high), and is easy to use
Weaknesses: the humidity display is not always accurate
Summary: I only had this unit for a days and noticed a difference within the 1st hour of use in the basement. When emptying the bucket make sure you support it on the bottom and not just by the handle - paid 179.00 good price for a 45 pint humidifier
