Summary: while turbo tax is easy to install and simple to follow through with its setup to file your tax returns, the basic version does not come with e-filing. this somewhat defeat the purpose of doing your taxes online. support is also limited.

Summary: I bought turbotax because it was part of a sale and I wanted to try software based tax preparation for the first time. everything was easy to follow, but I did not use audit support center because I wanted to know what was offered if there's no internet access. I'm very impressed.

Strengths: Cheap, easy to use

Weaknesses: E-filing and state taxes extra, easy to cause errors

Summary: We tried to use this software for filing taxes this year but found the lack of e-file disappointing. While it was easy to enter data, you must be careful that if you enter a deduction of income item and later change it and put in zeroes it will detect an error and you have to go back and delete the line. Instead, we found out we could use the free online edition which also includes free e-file, making this version seem very poor in comparison.

Summary: I have been using Turbotax for the last 4 years and I never had any issues. The software will retrieve your last year's tax files and compare to your current year's files, item by item, so that you will not miss anything.The software interface is very user friendly and will guide you through all the deductions. A nice feature is the donation part, which will estimate the value of the donated items for you. I have used e-file (for an additional charge) and I have already received my refund for 2007.I strongly recommend this item, but if you need to file State taxes, then you should buy Turbotax Deluxe instead.

Strengths: Years of development, comprehensive for Federal Income Tax

Weaknesses: Not for complex taxes

Summary: TurboTax Basic is good if you need to file a basic Federal return. There is no state or e-file included with this program. You may import some of your financial information from previous years, but there is no auto-fill feature. That is, if you need to type an account or institution name more than once, the program does not recognize you typed that before, and perform an auto-fill. If you have basic income, interest, simple deductions, and have a good understanding of what the tax law is, this is a reasonably priced and straightforward tax filing program.
