Ghost 14.0 leverages intelligence from Symantec?s security research organization by triggering incremental backups whenever ThreatCon reaches a specified threat level. Great for computers without antivirus protection. Google Desktop integration makes data recovery even faster with searchable backup indexes. Ghost triggers backups based on key events such as new program installations or sudden increases in data storage, and recovers your system and data even when you can't restart the operating system. Ghost provides password-encrypted backup and lets you define the level of compression and amount of resources used for backups. Throttle control backup lets you continue using your computer while backups occur seamlessly in the background.

Time with product: 50 Days
Strengths: user-friendly, reputation
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: Any computer users should back up their data as hard drive failures are not uncommon. Norton Ghost allows users to back up their data easily with an ergonomically designed user interface. I would highly recommend this product to those with valuable data on their computers.

Time with product: 2 Weeks
Strengths: excellent system recovery disk
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I upgraded my system with norton ghost 14 from version 12 and I am happy with it. It is working very nicely with my vista operating system, e.g. no hang-up issue. This version is very much the same with version 12 except it was built specifically for vista.

Strengths: It is probably a good file backup program.
Weaknesses: It does not create an image for a system backup.
Summary: Prior versions of Ghost have created images for system backups. Without changing the name, Norton has changed the program from an image program to a file backup program. There are better file backup programs available, and it is unfair to change the nature of a program without changing the program name.

Strengths: None. OH the program was actually on the CD.
Weaknesses: False and misleading advertising.
Summary: I have a dead laptop. THought I could boot to the CD, execute a backup onto the USB drive I have, then do a full hard disk wipe and reload. NOPE! I got the data off the laptop the old fashioned way by physically removing it. Then I installed Ghost onto a corporate identical laptop, backed it up to the USB drive. Installed it onto the dead laptop. NOPE!So I have to restore the dead laptop by hand. Buyer beware! because you cannot return this once you find that it sucks.OH also I am a Linux guy. After you install this crap, they THEN tell you that it doesn't backup Grub bootloader hard disks, Red Hat Enterprise linux disks, nor any disks with Grub 2. So that's like um 50-75% of the linux installations out there? OH but the advertising materials say it can backup linux disks. No caveats, like the one they tell you AFTER the fact. Oh did I mention? I run CentOS. SO this product has not helped me at all. It is garbage. I'm going to try Clonezilla (an open source one) then fallback to Acronis' True Image that I saw some "from bare metal" recovery messages.

Strengths: Very useful. Great function!
Weaknesses: Sometimes, it fails to restore.
Summary: It is a very helpful software to pretect your machine. It has great functions such as backup and restore from system failures. However, sometimes it fails to restore. I don't know the reason, but I did meet once.
