"Tiger Woods PGA Tour ‘09 isn’t a perfect game. It has some identifiable flaws which are made all the more jarring when compared to the smooth accessibility of the basic gameplay.
The graphics are possibly the worst offender, though the physics and character customisation could do with some work too. Though it is sad to have to fault a good game based just on how it looks, the reality is that some Tiger Woods 2009 could definitely do with some enhancements in terms of texture detail and variation.
That said, the gameplay is stronger than it’s ever been and the game represents a new height for the series in terms of playability. Players who are new to golfing can easily pick up the basics and charge right in to the competition proper, tackling better players on a mostly even playing field thanks to how adaptive the skill system is.
Still, nagging at the back of our minds is the doubt about whether anything here really makes Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009 stand out on its own merits or if it just seems so great because it’s the first game to really nail what a golfing game should be about. Whichever is true, this is a capable and enjoyable golfing game that is held back by a few mostly minor, but obvious issues." - 6th September 2008

Rating: Time with product: 1 Week Strengths: Nice Graphics, Easy to pick up and play, Very deep modes that will last for awhile. Weaknesses: Freezing on some loading screens. Summary: It's been since TW06 since I have played a TW game. This one by far is the best of the series. There is so much to do this in this game to keep you satisfied for quite awhile. Graphics only got a slight upgrade from previous years. Hitting a straight ball this year is much easier than previous years. It would be best to up the level to hard as the medium level seems to be too easy.Online is much better now that you don't have to wait for your opponents to hit the ball. It is now done simultaneously so a round should only take about 20 minutes. There is no lag to report, so all is good there. The only gripe I have is a freeze issue on the loading screen after I complete a training boost level. EA says to erase the game save which I will not do since it took awhile to get the level that I am currently at. Hopefully fix will come soon.I highly recommend getting this game if you really love golf. |
